Cruelty Free Beauty

I always suggest that you follow your own gut and research when buying and/or using a product. Some people will disagree with my list, and that is fine. This list is simply a helpful guideline for those trying to get started in buying Cruelty-Free products.  I will not reply to any further emails debating this list, or other products I use/will use. Arguing does nothing to help others become more aware, if anything it just shuts people off from new ideas.

If you can buy 75% Cruelty-Free, you're doing good in my books :)

    • Companies that do not test their products or ingredients on animals, will be listed below. (This is totally based on personal research)
    • If you have another cruelty free company to add, please post a comment below.
    • This will be an on-going list, however I will start by adding the most common-known products (name-brands that are familiar to most beauty-buyers!).
  •  There may be some articles I've posted or will post that feature cosmetics that might test it's ingredients on animals. I will, however do my best to choose cruelty-free options for the majority of products used and referenced here. I ask that you respect what I am trying to do and avoid passing judgment.
  • My goal is to become 100% cruelty free in my cosmetics, so you will notice more and more of my posts will feature cosmetics that do not test on animals. If a cosmetic I swatch, review or feature is a known cruelty-free product, I will put a small symbol (the little bunny ears), somewhere at the bottom of that post.

I've also researched via other independent sites such as Makeup Without Cruelty, or I have contacted the companies directly.

       Disclaimer

      Brands:
I know a lot of people are passionate about this particular subject and that there are many personal beliefs (sometimes opposing) on what should be done/not done about buying a particular brand.
An example of this might be :

" The Body Shop was bought by L'Oreal (who tests on animals) therefore they are not cruelty-free! The Body Shop should be boycotted!"

I believe that (such is the case for The Body Shop) they have never tested on animals and maintain their ethics on animal cruelty. Therefore, I personally will continue to buy from them and support them. I believe that if we all make the choice to buy only from companies who do not test on animals, other companies will take notice and (hopefully) change their ways.
I am not a raging activist, or an extremist, but I do believe that there is absolutely no purpose for any cosmetic company to test on animals in this day and age--- especially with new synthetic-skin technology tests that are available.

      Comments:
As mentioned before, I will gladly hear any respectful comments left under this article. I do not mind talking about this subject, and would love to learn about ways I can become more cruelty-free in my choices.
However, Beautynewbie.com is not a forum for debate or argument. If you want to express your judgment about what I do, or what I should choose to do... then find your own site and do it there. Your issues are none of my business.

      On a good note:
If you've recently, or have always chosen the cruelty-free path, I send you a virtual hug and thank you for loving our fuzzy friends!
      xoxo

      1. *Hug* back!!! I'm so happy that you are making a big deal out of this! Something needs to be done and there's a lot of gurus & people who watch them out there, if we all made a stand on this, we WOULD make a difference. Oh that'll be a epic wonderful day! Please keep blogs/vids about this subject, I love all of this!!
        *Hugs* again!

      4. Thank you for caring. I've been meaning to set up a blog like this for ages, using only beauty free cosmetics and shampoos and stuff and also household products because I passionately believe it is completely unnecessary. Big brands like L'oreal are so accepted and a lot of people don't seem to care, or realise, that they test on animals. Also, people seem to think that animal testing for makeup and stuff consists merely of putting lipstick on a rabbit or blusher on a rat when in fact it is a lot more sinister and horrific than that. Keep up the good work, you are doing something important.

      5. According to this, covergirl no longer tests on animals...I hear that because Ellen Degeneres is their spokesperson, that now they no longer test. I guess Ellen is a big animal rights advocate? I don't know...but here's the link: http://www.pgbeautygroomingscience.com/animal-testing-alternatives.html this link was from last year, so it might be obsolete now, but I just thought I'd post it for you to see. Also, I can't find either Rimmel, NYC, or Covergirl on either the do/don't test on animal lists on the PETA site.

The thing is there is a slight difference between no animal testing and Cruelty-free. They may not test their final product in most cases, but proctor and gamble still has ingredients and products that are tested on animals. The same goes for Rimmel and NYC. If you look around the web, people are in an uproar about the fact that Ellen Degeneres supports CoverGirl (and Olay, which is also not cruelty free).

From the link you provided from the P&G beauty site:

"We do not test ingredients on animals, except in very rare cases when necessary to meet government-mandates or safety obligations. "

They are saying that they will practice animal testing when there is the "need". So it IS still a practice their company uses on occasion.

There is (in my honest opinion) no NEED. "Once in a while" doesn't make the company okay, in my eyes.

Other companies practice envitro testing, or test on actual human subjects etc. and still come out with new and ingenious products. This is why PG (Proctor & Gamble) is still not cruelty-free.

I hope that helps clarify :) Thank you for your message, I appreciate it <3

      10. Life brand says that they don't test their FINISHED products on animals, so definitely not cruelty freee. As for QUO, I emailed them a while back but I don't remember what they told me, but I do remember that what they told me made me not trust them and I don't believe they are cruelty free
